Regional Solo and Ensemble Competition
We need volunteers and cookies.
The concession stand is a big fundraiser for the MMB each year, so we are asking for parents to take a turn manning the concessions or to send some fresh-baked cookies or brownies to sell. We need them to be wrapped or in a ziplock bag. We sell the cookies for $1, so please package a few together to give the kids their money's worth. Theresa Steele is setting up volunteers, so help if you can.
Send Us Snacks Please
This year we are trying to limit the amount of sugar the kids have at each of the games. We are still looking for sodas and sports drinks, and each week during the football season, we go through more than 200.
For snacks, we are asking for granola bars, chips or crackers instead of sweet treats.
The football season is long, we hope, so we can never get started too early collecting snacks for the year. Please send your donations to the band hall with your student. We ask for name brand sodas please. The kids don't particularly care for off brand sodas.
Thank you for all your support.
It's starting to get a little bit cool out there, so if you are interested in getting a new MMB sweatshirt for this fall, send in your order form and money. We'll be placing the first order on Oct. 25, so be quick. We may be able to place a second order, but that will be dependent on demand so don't miss your chance.
Order forms with cash or check made out to Felicia Ramsey or Theresa Steele can be given to Savannah Watson or Justin Steele.
DeSoto Marching Classic
Congratulations to the Mighty Maroon Band for placing 6th at the DeSoto Marching Classic on Oct. 12.
A note to parents
The MMBPO, and more specifically, the guys handling all the equipment would like to ask you band parents a favor. Please park in the parking lot east of the band hall (towards the stadium), rather than using the parking lot on the west side (near the band hall door and the cafeteria) when picking up your band student after rehearsal. We know that it is convenient to pull in there, and pick up your son/daughter, but parking there and waiting for them to come out of the band hall makes it difficult for us to get a truck or van in there so we can unload the water jugs and other equipment.
Parking out on the street in the fire lane might get you a citation from Mesquite's Finest. The east parking lot is the best place to park and wait for your child. They've marched a couple of miles during rehearsal. 30 yards more isn't going to hurt them any.
Also: Please do not pick up your band student down by the rehearsal field on Tuesdays. We are concerned about the safety of the kids after rehearsal. It's dark, and they are tired, and should not have to contend with cars. Basically, if you are not hauling water jugs or equipment, you should not have your car down there at all. If you want to watch rehearsal, you are more than welcome; just park in the administrative parking lot across Davis street, and walk over to the rehearsal field. Otherwise, please pick up your band student from the east parking lot.
Thank you in advance for you help with this.
